    Synopsis

    Surgically assisted orthodontic treatment is a practice builder that can accelerate orthodontic treatment. This presentation will define specific indications for the predictable use of this technique. Recent advances with state-of-the-art treatment concepts will be presented by multiple clinicians.

    Learning Objectives
    1. Describe indications, contraindications, and limitations of selective alveolar decortication;
    2. Explain the armamentarium required and surgical technique; and
    3. Discuss the history and bio-physiology behind the accelerated treatment process, explain the required modifications to conventional thought processes and treatment approaches, and apply recent innovations, like piezocautery or Invisalign orthodontic treatment, to accelerated osteogenic orthodontic treatment.
