Synopsis
Traditionally, surgeons place multiple implants for fully edentulous patients and dentists fabricate the overdenture according to the existing implants. Attachment assemblies perform optimally and last longer if implants are placed within specific distances and locations. Surgeons should know about overdenture attachments in order to place the implants accordingly.
Learning Objectives
- Describe the relationship between numbers of implants and each attachment assembly design;
- Differentiate among attachment assembly designs based on height of available bone and level of desirable resiliency, and plan surgical treatment around these criteria; and
- Highlight the advantages and disadvantages of each attachment assembly design.
