Synopsis
The physiology and pathophysiology of hemostasis will be reviewed in detail, including a review of pharmacologic agents impacting hemostasis and thrombosis. A literature-based review of the perioperative management of patients on these medications will be provided and the future of pharmacologic agents in hemostasis will be reviewed.
Learning Objectives
- Describe the physiology of hemostasis and the pathophysiology of disorders of hemostasis commonly seen in practice;
- List the contemporary medications impacting on hemostasis and their mechanisms of action, and describe how these medications impact clinical practice. Develop evidence-based protocols to perioperatively manage patients on anti-thrombotic medications; and
- Incorporate antithrombotic medications into their practice.
