    Synopsis

    This refresher course will provide the information for the practicing oral and maxillofacial surgeon and the resident in training to diagnose, manage and refer the patient with a trigeminal nerve injury.

    Learning Objectives
    1. Discuss the etiology, incidence, patient demographics, diagnostic methodology, medical management and surgical treatment of various injuries to the terminal branches of the trigeminal nerve;
    2. Summarize the current literature in the area of nerve injuries, including the recent recommendations of the AAOMS Clinical Interest Group on Maxillofacial Neurologic Disorders; and
    3. Discuss specific types of nerve injury and select the appropriate time for referral.
