The advancements with bioengineering and nanotechnology have brought new bone grafting materials to the forefront for the oral and maxillofacial surgeon. With all of the innovative research and knowledge of how bone formation occurs and which stimuli are required for bone induction/conduction, the true “gold standard” has moved away from autogenous bone with the focus now placed on use of alloplastic/xenoplastic materials to achieve bone regeneration in the most predictable yet cost-effective manner. This presentation will re-introduce the surgeon to the research completed over the last 20 years validating the effectiveness of Bio-Oss used in a variety of clinical applications. The presentation will also review the handling characteristics of this material and specific protocols for the various clinical applications.
