Synopsis
Obstructive sleep apnea compromises a significant portion of every oral and maxillofacial surgeon’s patient base. It occurs in both adults and children, males and females and may be associated with any of a number of co-morbidities. It is imperative that the oral and maxillofacial surgeon recognizes the signs and symptoms of the condition and recommends appropriate treatment modalities.
Learning Objectives
- Describe the criteria for diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea.
- Discuss the rationale, indications and contraindications for non-surgical treatment modalities, soft tissue corrective procedures and hard tissue corrective procedures.
