Synopsis

Obstructive sleep apnea compromises a significant portion of every oral and maxillofacial surgeon’s patient base. It occurs in both adults and children, males and females and may be associated with any of a number of co-morbidities. It is imperative that the oral and maxillofacial surgeon recognizes the signs and symptoms of the condition and recommends appropriate treatment modalities.

Learning Objectives
  1. Describe the criteria for diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea.
  2. Discuss the rationale, indications and contraindications for non-surgical treatment modalities, soft tissue corrective procedures and hard tissue corrective procedures.
