Synopsis

As the baby boomer generation reaches “the golden years,” oral and maxillofacial surgeons will be faced with the challenges of managing the surgical and anesthetic needs of an aging population. Attendant to older age is the limited ability of the body to recover from physiologic stresses, such as those posed by surgery and anesthesia The natural incidence of age-related diseases coupled with medical advances that keep patients with chronic diseases alive longer complicates the safe anesthetic and perioperative management of this patient population.

  2. Identify issues relating to elder abuse and neglect, and how they relate to OMS practice.
