Synopsis

The Committee on Anesthesia continually evaluates the quality of the educational experience in the management of simulated emergencies. Consequently, this year will consist of a three-hour program that includes an airway station with demonstration of various advanced airway devices with hands-on experience, and two simulation stations where the participants will execute management of simulated emergencies in real time. A debriefing to discuss the efficacy of the interventions will follow each scenario. OMS members are strongly encouraged to register with their allied staff in order to more closely replicate the office environment and team roles. In order to make best use of the available time, participants will be provided with a pre-course tutorial on the capabilities of the mannikin, and the drugs and equipment available.

Learning Objectives
  1. Designate roles and responsibilities for each member of the anesthesia team during an emergency.
  2. Develop office emergency scenarios with the anesthesia team and implement on a periodic basis.
  3. Demonstrate effective management of a compromised airway using various airway devices.
