Synopsis
This course reviews the surgical literature for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in adults. Main topics include goals and guidelines, intrapharyngeal versus extrapharyngeal approaches, unilevel and mulltilevel operations, staging protocols, secondary versus primary maxillomandibular advancement with or without adjunctive procedures, and standardization of success. Telegnathic operative techniques are illustrated with clinical cases.
Learning Objectives
- Explain the goals, guidelines, indications, and measures of success of surgery for OSA.
- Identify and prioritize the often multiple or diffusely complex sites or levels of disproportionate upper airway anatomy to correctly select what surgical procedures are necessary to treat OSA patients.
- Explain the surgical principles, operative techniques and treatment objectives of telegnathic MMA.
