Synopsis
Oral and maxillofacial surgeons have traditionally labored in the front lines of what the ADA has recently termed the "tattered safety net", providing the disadvantaged dental/surgical patient access to needed care. How must we as a speciality respond to growing governmental, public and professional concerns about current factors that appear to be adversely affecting access to care?
Learning Objectives
- Provide an objective reason why oral surgeons should continue to provide access to needed dental care.
- Discuss ways to work within organized dentistry, the government and the community to enhance access to needed dental care.
