Synopsis

Orthognathic surgery has undergone a major shift with the advent of virtual surgery, splint making and 3D analysis. This lecture will discuss current computer programs that allow for surgical treatment planning, simulation and 3D rendering. It will also show how to use virtual surgery to plan treatment and make surgical guides and splints. This field is a work in progress and it is important for surgeons to stay current as the technology evolves.

Learning Objectives
  1. Discuss the programs that are available for planning and simulating orthognathic surgery.
  2. Explain the benefits and limitations of computer-assisted surgery and how to use it in practice.
