    Synopsis

    The complex issue of aging as it relates to the oral and maxillofacial surgeon will be discussed in detail. The impairment of aging will be developed including recognition, assessment and interpretation of neuropsychological testing. The physical restraints secondary to aging will be discussed, as well as strategies to prolong the career of the surgeon consistent with patient safety.

    Learning Objectives
    1. Discuss how to prevent adverse patient outcomes and allow for transitions.
    2. Allow the surgeon to make the decision of when to slow down or retire and not leave it in the hands of someone else.
    3. Prolong the safe practice of oral and maxillofacial surgeons as the workforce ages.
