Synopsis
Attend the third of a five-part series on Disasters from the Masters: Complications and Management in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. This year’s program will focus on surgical complications in head and neck oncology. Three leading surgeons will present closed surgical cases and the audience will be asked to respond to their preferred treatment of the clinical case. Respondents will discuss how to treat the emergency and what might have been done differently to prevent the adverse event.
Learning Objectives
- Describe the pros and cons of adjunctive therapies, salvage surgery and sentinel node biopsy in the management of oral cancer.
- Recognize the criteria necessary to achieve optimal results in head and neck oncologic surgery.
- Discuss opportunities for OMS training in microvascular free tissue transfer and/or participation in a team approach to reconstruction.
- Recognize potential risks associated with head and neck oncology cases in an effort to prevent untoward outcomes.
